Okay guys, let's get this thing rolling...

Here is an (unaltered) image I currently have in my album. I was playing with depth of field. So... what would we do to this image to make it a good one to put in a comp??

ie. how would we either manipulate this one OR how would we set up the shot next time to ensure a better result?

I think I'd plan another shot, showing more of the cat. The leg in foreground is not connected to Willow visually. Try a horizontal format with all the body (or more of it) showing leg as part of body. Keep the shallow depth of field. Maybe even place a coloured accessory near the leg (to add interest & indicate Willow's size - maybe a ball of wool??)

good point. It's just a leg there lol... I used flash too, so next time I don't think I'd do that either. She was laying under the bed though, so the light from the window was only reaching half of her. It is very difficult to pose cats...

Flash is OK in that case - maybe soften/diffuse it a bit. If your cat likes being with you, find yourself the right spot with good light and be patient, with your camera ready :)

Initially I was intirgued as I didn't understand what I was looking at.and kept searching it for clues. The background looks like it might be the rest of the cat. In that case a little more depth of field to show the form of the cat better might have helped the composition. Your plan was good though to have the paw in close up and the rest of the cat as background. To get the cat in the light you want - does she have a bed or something that is hers. If she does move it to a location more conducive to photography and wait your chance.
