Celina - I saw this shot at Saturday's club bbq with your shot of Willow under the bed in mind. Oscar was under the bench where Margaret was sitting. It was pretty poor light (though maybe not as bad as under a bed). As he was very still, I rested camera on the ground, with centre focus selected and pressed the shutter. It hasn't worked too badly. Adjustments made as mentioned above to give a bit more contrast/impact/definition. Worth a try if Willow is lying in dim light.

Yeah the second one looks at lot better doesn't it. Will have a go on the Willow pic.

Okay, so I just tried it on my pic of Willow. I think the only answer is to try the shot again with a larger DOF. There's just not enough info to bring out any more detail. I think just slightly enlarging DOF will make a big difference in being able to make out the shape of the cat. Lighting adjustments did help to bring out foreground though.

I was thinking the shooting method might be a way to get one of the kitten when in a dark place but not moving. I really like shots taken when the camera out of my hands or without my eye's guidance. Is all about guesswork and can give nice surprises.
